Los Angeles County Jail - Pitchess Detention Centers
Los Angeles County Jail - Pitchess Detention Centers
The Pitchess jail can be confusing because it consists of various facilities, some of which house inmates who have been sentenced and others which house defendants prior to trial.
Los Angeles County’s Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, California has three main jail facilities: South, North, and East. These facilities are different based upon their levels of security. The main function of Pitchess jail is to house inmate workers.
Part the Pitchess jail facility is the state-of-the-art, North County Correctional Facility (NCCF) also called the SuperMax. This is the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s maximum-security facility.
While the jails have a large population of both parole violators and sentenced inmates, pretrial defendants are also held at Pitchess jail. Pretrial defendants would typically be eligible for bail bonds, but sentenced inmates are not.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, which runs Pitchess, uses the facility as an overflow to the Men’s Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles. Those who are bailed out at Pitchess are often transported back downtown by Sheriff’s Deputies for release.
