SLO Jail Visiting Rules

San Luis Obispo Jail Visiting Rules

All visitors over the age of 18 must show a valid government issued photo identification card.  The following are acceptable: Driver’s license, DMV identification card, a current military identification card, a current passport, or a valid immigration identification card. Visitors without acceptable identification will not be allowed to visit.  Any person under the age of 18, unless a legal spouse of the inmate, must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Once a person is placed in a housing unit, they may receive visitors during regularly scheduled visiting times. There is no visiting on Mondays or Fridays. All visitors must come dressed appropriately and sign up 30 minutes prior to the visit. Handbags, backpacks, strollers, cell phones and other personal property will not be allowed inside the visiting area.

Visiting may be restricted for disciplinary or medical reasons. Call 781-4600 and speak with someone to see if a particular inmate has any restrictions.

For general visiting, only one adult per person is allowed into visiting at one time. Children may accompany the adult. For inmates housed on the Honor Farm, up to three people may visit at one time.

VISITING INFORMATION

  1.  Inmates will be allowed two (2) 30 minute visits per week, OR one (1) one hour visit. It is determined by the inmate’s wishes whether he/she uses the total time in one visit or wishes to split it for later in the week.
  2. When a visit continues past the 30 minute period, the inmate will automatically be credited with an hour visitation and may not visit again until the new week begins.
  3.  The visiting week begins on Sunday and ends on Saturday.
  4. Only one (1) adult may enter the visiting room per inmate at a time. (The ONLY exception to this will be if the adult is accompanied by a minor child under the age of 18 years).
  5. Visitors may only visit one (1) inmate per facility per day. (i.e., if you visit in the Main Jail with an inmate you may not visit another inmate housed in the Main Jail, however, if you visit in the Main Jail and wish to visit one inmate on the Honor Farm or Female Jail, this will be allowed).
  6. Visitor conversations with inmates are subject to monitoring.
  7. An inmate may refuse a visit. We do not advise inmates prior to visitation who is here to visit.
  8.  Any person under the age of 18 years, unless a legal spouse or child of the inmate, must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times while in the Sheriff's facility. It is the responsibility of the visitor to provide proof of their relationship to the staff's satisfaction.
  9. All visitors over the age of 18 must provide this department with one of the following forms of PICTURE I.D. A) Valid Drivers License, B) State Identification Card, C) Other official government issued I.D., with picture, physical description & signature.
  10. No person shall be allowed to visit who has been incarcerated in our facility within the six (6) weeks prior to the date wishing to visit.
  11. Anyone with prior felony court action, excepting dismissal or acquit must obtain special permission to visit an inmate, prior to visiting day, from the Custody Division Commander.
  12. Any person on parole or probation must have written approval from their parole/probation officer and the Custody Division Commander or his designee.
  13. Any visitor who appears to be under the influence of any form of intoxicants, including drugs or alcohol, will not be permitted to visit, and could be subject to arrest.
  14.  Visitors who are either unwilling or unable to control their children will not be permitted to visit, OR, if during visitation, the visit may be terminated. All children, excluding infants, will be required to sit quietly in the chairs provided in the visiting room.
  15. Any visitor who is disruptive or causes a disturbance, abusive towards staff, or fails to adhere to the rules will cause the visit to be terminated immediately.
